The 10th Annual Ratha Yatra at Sungei Siput on 19 December 2009 which began at the Sungei Siput Convention Hall was inaugurated by HH Janananda Goswami amidst rain showers. HH Prabhavisnu Swami joined the procession about 30 minutes into the procession.
Chairman of ISKCON Sungei Siput HG Krishna Daya prabhu and his congregation members worked hard to make sure that everyone was cared for and engaged during the festival. Even before the festival began about 150 children were sitting on round tables and very attentively taking part in the Krishna coloring competition. Youths were rehearsing dances and adults were running around doing last minute arrangements.

HG Santi Vardhana Caitanya prabhu who does special weekly scriptural classes at Sungei Siput drove HH Janananda Maharaj from the BCC, Prai to Sungei Siput making sure Maharaj was in time to inaugurate the procession. At 5.30PM HG Ananda Dulal prabhu was with last minute arrangements on top the ISKCON Taiping chariot, a towable chariot serving many of the Malaysian processions. Ananda Dulal prabhu and his good wife personally serve most of the Malaysian Ratha Yatras by not only transporting Their Lordships but also in making sure that worship, food offerings, timings , etc are kept to proper standards. Their service can be very austere such as having to travel hundreds of kilometres from one corner of the country to another while at times having to drive immediately at late nights after festivals so that they can be in time for the next festival. HH Janananda Maharaj during his address especially thanked both Ananda Dulal prabhu and his wife for their continued dedicated services.

Compared to many other towns Sungei Siput residents not only outnumber other town residents in making offerings to Lord Jagannatha but are also more receptive and spontaneous. Many residents after making their offerings to Lord Jagannatha in front of their homes also make it a point to join the chariot procession till the end and participate in the hall programmes. Towards the end of the procession the generator went down and Ananda Dulal prabhu held camphor lights for a good part of the procession before we got the generator to work. At one route stretch Kirtan led by Kripa Sindhu Krishna prabhu was at such heights pushing devotees in such ecstasies that everyone forgot that the procession had overshot the actual route. The procession ended at the town hall at 9.00PM and soon a welcome address was given by Krishna Daya prabhu followed by spiritual addresses by Their Holinesses. Dance and drama took over the stage after the Swami's addresses. Sumptuous prasadam of about 10 varieties were served to all. On 20th morning both the swamis visited the new centre building and had kirtan with about 20 devotees. HH Janananda Maharaj was scheduled for a programme in Ipoh while HH Prabhavisnu Maharaj went back to Penang for a noon programme and then to BCC for the Sunday evening programme. |
